Short Business Description:
I am a psychotherapist specializing in helping adults age 18 and up with chronic pain and trauma. I also have a special interest in helping neurodivergent/autistic adults and parents/caregivers of neurodivergent/autistic kids.
Long Business Description:

When traumatic events lead to pain, it can be especially difficult to resolve that pain without processing the incident that caused it. Even if there was not a specific trigger, chronic pain often brings with it grief, anxiety, depression, and anger that all exacerbate the impact of that pain.

I specialize in helping people whose stress and trauma affects their chronic pain learn how to effectively process emotions and past trauma in order to reduce pain and emotional distress.

I do this using techniques with proven effectiveness treating chronic pain and trauma, including clinical hypnosis, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR), Prolonged Exposure therapy, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT).

Additionally, as a mom of three autistic kids and someone who identifies as a Highly Sensitive Person (HSP), I also understand how living in a world that is not set up for you can set the stage for anxiety and trauma that often finds itself playing out in the form of physical issues. I help adults learn to navigate their own needs as neurodivergent individuals and heal from trauma that has occurred, at least in part, by living in a world that does not respect and honor their differences.

I conduct all sessions via telehealth during the COVID-19 pandemic, and in ordinary times I see people in person in my office in St. Paul and via telehealth throughout Minnesota. The easiest way to begin working with me is to go to my website, www.erinbdlicsw.com, and reserve a time for a free 15-minute phone consultation.

Now for my qualifications… I have been in practice for over 10 years. I have the following degrees: Master of Social Work from University of St. Thomas/St. Catherine’s University School of Social Work; Master of Arts from Yale University; Bachelor of Arts from Grinnell College.

I hold the following certifications: Diplomate of the Academy of Cognitive Therapy; Certified in Clinical Hypnosis by the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis; Certified in Prolonged Exposure Therapy by the Center for the Treatment and Study of Anxiety.

I have given presentations on chronic pain and trauma at the Autism Society of Minnesota annual conference, National Association of Social Workers Minnesota State Conference, HealthEast Spine Symposium, and the Minnesota Holistic Medicine Group.

I look forward to hearing from you!

Long Business Description:

Denise is an occupational therapist who has over 35 years of experience, treating adults and children with sensory processing disorders.
Denise is a licensed occupational therapist, with a certification in Sensory Integration and Praxis Tests (C-SIPT) and extensive training in varied sensory based intervention techniques. She is a techniques-level certified CranioSacral Practitioner with advanced and pediatric training in CranioSacral Therapy. Denise has served as a teaching assistant for multiple CranioSacral Therapy courses provided by the Upledger Institute.

Denise started her career in pediatrics, working in a group home for children with disabilities. This is where she started her journey working with people on the Autism Spectrum. The first child she treated sparked a fascination and a deep desire to understand how they were processing the world around them, and how to facilitate improved ability to engage and find joy. As her career progressed, she found herself working with more and more children on the spectrum, witnessing the alarming increase in ASD diagnoses and constantly seeking more and improved ways to work with these children.

In the mid to late 1980’s, Denise became the first full time occupational therapist at Exceptional Children with Communication and Interaction Disorders, the autism day treatment program that was part of Children’s Hospitals and Clinics – Minneapolis, and that later became part of Fraser Child and Family Services, establishing the occupational therapy program. She also had the opportunity to work on a multi-disciplinary team providing evaluations to children from the 5 state area and Canada and making recommendations for appropriate programming and intervention for those children. Later, as a staff therapist for Children’s Minneapolis, she provided outpatient services for children with many diagnoses and conditions, but always having children on the spectrum comprising the majority of her caseload.

When Denise moved to Indiana from 1998 to 2005, she worked in the First Steps Program, providing services to children birth to 3 years of age. This position offered many opportunities to work with children and their families or caregivers in the natural setting. She also provided contract services to a school district, providing services for their most challenging students that had not responded to traditional program planning.

Upon her return to Minnesota, Denise began working at a local outpatient clinic that provides speech and language and occupational therapy services to address sensory processing disorders. Over the course of her 13 year tenure, she began to treat more adults, starting with those referred for eating disorders with a suspected sensory component and gradually working with adults recently diagnosed with ASD, and adolescents and adults with anxiety or PTSD, addressing sensory processing and reflex integration using the MNRI approach. In addition, she began to work with infants with feeding difficulties, torticolis and plagiocephaly, using CranioSacral Therapy techniques. At this time, Denise also began a small private practice in CranioSacral Therapy, working with a sports medicine chiropractor and treating student athletes with concussions, people experiencing migraines and TMJ, chronic neck and back pain and endometriosis.

In early 2018, Denise began traveling and had the opportunity to work in Delaware and Illinois as a staff occupational therapist in low incidence educational settings. These experiences offered opportunities to gain skills in working with children up to age 21 with severe emotional and behavioral challenges, resulting in placement in highly-structured educational settings.

All of these experiences have brought Denise full circle, returning to her home in Minnesota and beginning a new chapter, using all of her experiences to work in a setting that focuses on health and wellness.
If you are curious about Newbridge, new to integrative medicine, or seeking extra support / more information about potential treatments, we also offer educational classes, support groups, and Q&A groups to help foster support and healing for individuals and families working towards optimal health.

Mary Flood-Maneely helps individuals and groups find and release the emotional root causes of pain and resentment through the Unconditional Forgiveness process.
Unconditional Forgiveness is a clear, reliable, step-by-step process based in psychology and spirituality that works on the emotional, mental, physical, energetic, and spiritual levels. Many people sense that there is a emotional component to physical pain or illness but don’t know how to heal past wounds, events, or relationships. In the fall of 2000, Mary was asked a pivotal question: “Is there something you need to forgive?”. And although her answer was ‘yes’, she realized that she didn’t know specifically what steps to take. Questioning ‘what does forgiving really look like?’ brought her to the Midwest Institute for Forgiveness Training in Minneapolis, MN, where she finished a one-year certificate course in the Unconditional Love and Forgiveness model in June, 2002.

After completing an additional year of apprenticeship, Mary became a trainer for the Midwest Institute for Forgiveness Training events, and began teaching classes and workshops and working with individuals on her own. She has taught the Unconditional Forgiveness model and method, in venues ranging from Hazelden Renewal Center to the Minnesota Women’s Correctional Facility (Shakopee); in religious, spiritual, and community centers; and as a guest lecturer at the University of Minnesota Center for Spirituality and Healing.

Mary specializes in helping others release pain, remove obstacles, and find new possibilities. This includes releasing pain and resentments from relationships with the hope of resetting love and good will (i.e., current spouses / significant others, parents, children, friends)–and from relationships, events, situations it’s time to let go (including abuse, betrayal, dangerous or inappropriate behavior). The Unconditional Forgiveness model includes components of Forgiving Others and Self-Forgiveness. ‘Others’ can include anyone or anything that causes angst–individuals living or dead; groups; family or social systems; institutions; social, cultural, or political movements or parties; and the like.

Rosen Method bodywork and Movement

Rosen Method bodywork practice gentle, listening meeting touch to bring awareness to unconscious holding in the body. If we have tension when we aren’t actively using our bodies, what is that tension doing for us? We explore this question together noticing sensation, the way we come to the present moment, with support, to be with our most essential selves.
Rosen Movement is a fun, easy going, joint mobilization class. We use music, which stimulates our moving in synchrony to a variety of rhythms. We move in a circle enhancing connection and a sense of community.

Movement Sanctuary
A practice of moving to access the unconscious through the simple form of moving, eyes closed, with a non-judgmental witness, eyes open. We share our own experiences after a movement session, taking great care to know it is our own experience only. Insights, shifts, and resolutions within our bodies and minds are often the result.

I have studied Somatic Experiencing which focuses on trauma resolution by learning to track body sensation and resolution naturally.

I have been practicing touch work since 1984. I have studied many touch and movement modalities over 35 years. I continue to learn and be awed by the miraculous beings we all are. Our body, mind and spirit are interconnected, as is our connection to all life on our planet. It is important to me as white middle class cis gendered woman, to approach the healing of racial, developmental, relational, racial, historical, and sexual trauma through the body. Being able to metabolize/naturally process our body responses enables us to be more present, capable, and resilient in our immediate lives.
