"Most of what I do is treat PTSD in first-responders, physicians/nurses, military, and survivors of childhood abuse. Trauma isn't always expressed as 'PTSD,' though. Often, its effects are more subtle: Depression, anxiety, a need to control things, chronic worry, or low self-esteem. I use EMDR and integrative-psychodynamic therapy to tailor your therapy to you. I have found that when we can look underneath the symptoms and find the root causes to them, we can address problems at their core and create deep lasting change.

That said, even though I mostly work with trauma, it isn't all I do. I do a lot of 'regular therapy' for all kinds of problems: As I see it the best predictor of outcome in therapy isn't whether your therapist specializes in your problem or not, it's whether the two of you are a good match, the client is motivated, and the therapist generally has a good idea about what they're doing.

My patients tell me that what they like about me is I'm a down-to-earth, straight-shootin' sort of person. A client once said to me, 'I like you because I can't bullshit you and you don't use any of that condescending psychobabble horseshit' and it still makes me laugh because I think it is a decent description of me. Anyway, I believe good therapy involves a balance between being reassured and supported by your therapist coupled with trusting that they will tell you what you need to hear, even if it may be unpleasant. Growth and personal change often are painful and involve breaking a sweat. I try to walk that line between supporting people and challenging them, and I get a lot of positive feedback about it. So, I probably am a good fit for folks who want a therapist who has some presence and is active in the therapy.

Finally, I approach my work with a deep passion and love for it. Everyday, I get to wake up and do what I love for a living. Besides being a father and husband, I believe being a therapist is the most important thing I will ever do with my life. People entrusting me with their deepest pains is a great honor. I think I feel this way because I once was a young man, struggling and thinking of suicide and fearing I had lost my mind, and then a good therapist got through to me. My life was changed forever. Turns out, I wasn't crazy and I wasn't a lost cause. And so I don't think anyone is crazy or beyond help, they just need to find the right therapist like I did. Call me to see if I'm right for you."
